Had the final red flagged this month and wondered what happened when the drivers that had crashed were re-instated in the race finish. As the race had gone over 75% distance it was not restarted and was deemed a race. However, now it is deemed a race they wind back to the previous full lap for the positions, which obviously puts the drivers who crashed out back in the race order! The accident was judged to be a racing incident so all drivers where back in the order.
Just reviewing the rules if there is a red flag on or before 25% of the race distance then it is a complete restart, back in start grid order. If it is 50% to 75% then it is a restart in the current race positions. The crashed karts will not be allowed to re-join the race. Is that how it works in F1? The winding back kind of confuses me, doesn't really seem right?
